What is a Municipal Bond?

Municipal Bonds have been an important part of your life even though you may not have been aware of what they were or how they worked.

Throughout your lifetime, you have been using many public facilities that have been constructed with funds provided by Municipal Bonds – facilities such as roads, bridges, water and sewer systems, schools, hospitals, and geriatric facilities and even airports.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, a bond is defined as “a certificate of debt issued by a government guaranteeing payment of the original investment plus interest by a specified future date”. For Tax-Free Municipal Bonds, the “government” referred to in the definition is any form of local government such as a state, county, city, special taxing district or agency thereof.

Corporate Bonds

Corporate Bonds generally offer higher yields than other fixed income investments due their taxability and increased credit risk when compared to FDIC-insured CDs and tax-free Municipal Bonds. You may want to consider investing in Corporate Bonds to help meet your income needs.
